Hummingbird Drones
From September 2022 to August 2025, my sole focus was the Nova platform while working as a Full Stack Developer at Hummingbird Drones. During my time there I transformed the platform from a proof of concept to a celebrated industry standard.
Nova is a Next.js web application made for emergency responders that use drones for data collection. Nova is used across the US and Canada, but notably, we helped the LA County Fire Department fight the LA Palisades fires in January of 2025.
Nova not only aims to provide easy mapping tools to anyone who needs them, but it's also the only platform in existence to map hotspots using machine learning.
I worked on a ton of projects I'm super proud of for Nova, here are a few highlights:
PDF Generator
- Converts map layers to a georeferenced PDF export with QGIS
- Multiple size, layout and orientation options
- Add or remove items to the legend
- Shareable with QR Code
Workspace File Manager
- Google drive inspired file manager
- Create workspaces, folders and projects
- Reorganize files in any way needed
Map Annotations
- Side Panel interface for management of map layers
- Place icons, draw lines or write text
- Group map layers for easy organization
- CRUD controls for all layer types
Collaborative Permissions
- Email invitations for collaborating in Nova
- Role based access for restricting actions
- Secured API routes to prevent permission breaching
- Share specific folders or projects directly
User Onboarding
- Redesigned onboarding with a sleek look
- Registers users through AWS Cognito
- Sends temporary password to verify email
- Increased user conversions by 400%
Stripe Payments
- Integrated the Stripe API
- Added data usage tracking
- Restricted app after usage was exceeded
- Worked with Sales to accomodate their workflows
Personal Projects
Back in university I was super into game development and published a few small games online. I've honestly not pursued this in a while but I'm still super proud of what I've made!
My Blog
I have a passion for television, creative writing, and the reality show Survivor. Since 2020, I've kept a blog as an outlet to dump my thoughts. Most of it's television reviews, a lot of it's Survivor related, but I love having this time capsule to look back on.
